Why Are We Even Having a Color Me Green Run?

With all of the many awesome 4-H events already out there, you may be wondering "why are we even having a Color Me Green Run?" I'd like to tell you simply....because it's cool! But that's not the real reason!

It's for our HEALTH. You know, one of the four H's that we talk about so much! Here's what the state says about healthy living: 4-H Healthy Living encompasses a holistic approach including healthy eating habits, physical fitness, the capacity to manage emotions, and the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships. The University of California 4-H Youth Development Program is focusing efforts on increasing healthy living opportunities and strengthening the presence of healthy living themes throughout existing programs, activities and curriculum.

Running and walking are great ways to stay active. We do it all of the time! We walk at school, at work, across the street, through the shopping mall, on a hike, on a track, on a treadmill! We do it a lot! It's something we do fairly easily. Some of us are slooooooowwww and some of us are fast! But most of us can do it! We can do it alone or we can do it with a friend! Walking or running for exercise is a great opportunity to connect with a friend and get healthy at the same time!

Let's Get Moving!

The Jamul Chaparros 4-H club, with support from the San Diego County 4-H, will be hosting its first Color Me Green 5K in Spring of 2016! I need volunteers to help plan this event and help out the day of the event! Let me know if you are able to help us plan this awesome event. Wait a minute! You may be wondering, "who are you?" I am Wendy Teasdale, one of the community club leaders of the awesome Jamul Chaparros 4-H club, an avid runner, and the project leader of our new Health and Fitness Project. We will be learning ways of keeping active, making healthy food choices, and choosing non-sugary beverages to hydrate ourselves! In fact, that is the goal of the Color Me Green Run...to motivate 4-H members, their families, and the community to get active, get healthy, and kick their dependence on sugary drinks! I am guessing your next question is, "why me? Why should I participate?" Well, 'cause it's fun! And you will end up dirty. And green. And happy! And healthy! Oh, and remember that one of our "H's" is HEALTH! So do it for your health! Your body will thank you! The Color Me Green 5K will be open to ALL 4-H members, their families, and the community. Don't belong to a Health and Fitness project? Have no idea how to even start training for a 5K? No worries! This blog will be providing tips, information, and MOTIVATION to participate in this 5K! So, put on those running shoes and get out there!
